World Series Game 7 Draws 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined over 50 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-game series recorded 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
